Glenelly Estate

In 2003, at the age of 78, May de Lencquesaing, a great lady of wine and former owner of the legendary Château Pichon Lalande in Bordeaux, decided to start all over again. She headed to South Africa, where she revived Glenelly Estate , an estate steeped in history. On this land trodden more than 300 years ago by French Huguenots, she planted vines after a meticulous study of the terroir and built one of the most modern wineries on the continent.

With a bold vision, she elevates Glenelly Estate to the rank of South African wine references. Her wines, recognized by the greatest international critics, seduce with their power, elegance and balance.

Just 50 kilometres from Cape Town, Glenelly Estate is anchored in the legendary Stellenbosch vineyard, a region where vines have shaped the landscape since the 17th century. The history of the estate dates back to 1682, when the Huguenot François Villon received these lands from the governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel. Today, Glenelly Estate perpetuates this tradition of excellence, between respect for the terroir and innovation.
