Groot Constantia

Le point de vue du Baroudeur

Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest winery and one of its finest. The original property was built in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, the first governor of the Cape Colony. The estate has been owned by several different families over the years, but the current owners are the Constanti family.

The Groot Constantia vineyards are planted on the slopes of Table Mountain, in a unique microclimate, ideal for growing grapes. The soils are a mix of sand and clay, which helps retain moisture and keep the vines healthy. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Groot Constantia wines are renowned for their elegance and finesse. The estate produces a range of white, red and dessert wines, all highly rated by critics. The flagship wine is the Groot Constantia Grand Constance.

If you are visiting Cape Town, a visit to Groot Constantia is a must. The estate is open to the public and offers a range of activities, including wine tastings, vineyard and cellar tours, and a museum.
