Nero d'Avola grape wines

Le point de vue du Baroudeur

Nero d'Avola (also known as Calabrese) is the most important and widely planted red grape variety in Sicily. This dark-skinned grape is of great historical importance to Sicily and takes its current name from the town of Avola, on the southeast coast of the island.

Depending on the production methods, Nero d'Avola can be transformed into a dense and dark wine, stored in oak barrels and suitable for aging, or into a young and fresh wine. Young wines feature aromas of plum and juicy red fruits, while more complex wines have flavors of chocolate and black raspberry.
