The property extends over 400 hectares on the northern slope of Montalcino (50km south of Siena), including only 13 hectares dedicated to vines, exclusively Sangiovese Grosso. At the center of the estate is the castle , completed in 1441 by the family Tricerchi , today owned by the Squarcia family, their direct descendants. The vines surround the château and are made up of 7 distinct plots. The structure of the soil, clay-limestone and sandy, and the exposure guarantee ripening of the grapes with great balance.


The vines grow on clay-limestone and sandy soils and the exposure guarantees perfect ripening of the grapes. The vines intended for Brunello (Vigna del Castello & Vigna del Velo plots) are located at an altitude of 290m, only on the north/northwest slopes of the property, characterized by cooler temperatures and significant thermal differences. The manual harvest takes place at the beginning of October. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, followed by a long maceration of 30 days in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Finally, aging takes place in 15 to 20 hl barrels for a minimum period of 26 months followed by 8 months in bottle. The wine has a ruby ​​color, clear and intense. This wine reveals aromas of ripe cherry , blood orange , strawberry jam , red plum , bay leaf , thyme , leather , graphite and forest nuances . In the mouth it is racy, intense and structured. The tannins are silky and elegant, with a fine acidity, promising good evolution.

The sub-region: Montalcino


Montalcino is an Italian commune of around 5,200 inhabitants located in southern Tuscany and renowned for its production of quality wines including the famous Brunello di Montalcino. Montalcino's climate is one of the hottest and driest in Tuscany. Obtaining full maturity is therefore rarely a problem encountered by winegrowers. In good years, Sangiovese grapes ripen up to a week earlier than those from nearby Chianti and Montepulciano. Naturally, microclimates vary between different wine sites depending on their exposure. Grapes grown on northern slopes tend to ripen more slowly, resulting in racier wine styles. On the southern and western slopes, in contrast, grapes are exposed to more intense sun and cool sea breezes, resulting in more complex and powerful wine styles.
