The little history of the country
Japan
Viticulture in Japan is a bold adventure in a country where ancient traditions meet modern innovation. In this landscape where mountains embrace the sky and valleys plunge towards the ocean, Japan has surprisingly made its place in the wine world. On this island, vineyards cling to hillsides, defying fickle weather and agricultural challenges with unmatched bravery. The climate varies widely, from harsh winters in the north to hot, humid summers in the south, forging wines as diverse as the terrain itself. Local grape varieties, such as Koshu and Muscat Bailey A, are the unsung heroes of this winemaking epic. Adapted to their native land, they produce wines that capture the essence of Japanese terroir – subtle, elegant and deeply rooted in the country’s culture. Japanese winemakers, true artisans of the grape, integrate traditional techniques and cutting-edge innovations to cultivate their vines and create wines that are beginning to capture the world’s attention.
